Today is a day of anniversaries. It also happens to be my birthday, and looking back at the last 5 supercharged Drupal years makes me smile.
Working with Drupal has changed my life and has taken me, a simple open source twiddler, around the world: Kuala Lumpur, Barcelona, Washington, Accra, Szeged, Cologne, Paris and Dakar - to name a few.
Drupal has helped me quit my day job, set up a company in Belgium, help set up a team at a start-up in Paris and, most recently, drove @mrsimonelliot and myself to co-found Bantalabs, located in Paris and Dakar.
Bantalabs' first birthday also marks my first year of living and working in Senegal, and what a year it's been. The first bootstrapped months have been rough, but we survived and we're hiring developers on both continents. We've successfully helped kickstart the Drupal community in Senegal and we've set up training programs in collaboration with partners in both the private and public sector.
Oh, and we're about to announce the first DrupalCampDakar (shhht, don't tell anyone yet, but it's taking place April 22nd - 24th).
The bottom line: we're having fun, we're working with great people and we're part of an awesome community that takes us places we never dreamed of. I'm extremely proud of where we are today and I can't wait to see what's in store for us the next 12 months.
What about you? What has Drupal done for you lately?
